It’s a New Year!!!

Tuesday, 29 Dec, 2009 — by Johnny Hampton

I can’t believe it.  Is 2009 really almost over?  Crazy.

For some, bringing in a new year is the best thing ever.  Maybe it’s because your 2009 wasn’t so great and you are ready for a fresh start - a new beginning!  For others, bringing in a new year is kind of a bummer - you don’t want this year to end because you can’t imagine another year could be as good as this one.  Well, ready or not, here it comes.

So, for what it’s worth to you - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Around here, with the New Year comes a New Schedule for our Sunday morning activities.  We hope that you resolve to be a significant part of Upper Room Student Minsitries this year and we hope to be a significant part of your life as well!

Check out our New Sunday Schedule and come hang out with us on Sundays in 2010!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Monday, 23 Nov, 2009 — by Johnny Hampton

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is this week!  Wow!  There really is a lot to be thankful for, isn’t there?  I hope you have a great Thanksgiving, eat lots of food, and enjoy the time off of school and with your family and friends.

We had an amazing weekend at our Fall Retreat - tons of fun and a great time remembering how much God loves us.  I got home yesterday afternoon, settled in, turned on the TV, and then it started…

The nightmare memories of my disastrous mission at WAY:TOO:EARLY AM last year on black Friday.  The unfortunate flashbacks started happening because they are here - the commercials for this year’s amazing deals.  All you have to do is be there at 3am, and you are SURE to get the deal you’ve been waiting for your whole life.  Of course, you might have to outrun the dedicated mother who has a purse full of bricks and ready to use it if she has to. smile

Anyway, if you are one who chooses to brave the elements, lines, and more lines this Friday - good luck.

Oh, and here’s a thought for you:  I wonder how many people who will be standing in a line at 4am on Friday morning waiting for the store to open will be late to church on Sunday?

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not against all the fun madness that happens on black Friday.  I’m just praying that we find an appropriate balance this Advent season.

“Normal”

Tuesday, 03 Nov, 2009 — by Johnny Hampton

Hey!  Thanks for stopping by and checking in on URSM.  We hope you are doing well and we also hope we get to see you soon!  For the next couple of weeks, things are fairly normal around here - whatever "normal" is for us. smile  Check out our weekly ministries and see if there is something you are able to come to - we'd love to hang out with you.

Also, don't forget to check out the details for our upcoming Fall Retreat that we affectionately call "Retreat Retreat" - so good we say it twice!  The theme this year is "Retreat...Why Retreat?"  Looking for a weekend to just chill, hang out in the mountains, play in the snow (hopefully), then warm up by fire and hot chocolate?  Then this is for you!  We'll play, worship, listen to an amazing speaker share God's Word with us, and have a stellar time just hanging out with each other.  Click here for more details.

Well, stay warm, stay healthy, and we'll see you around!
